Rock Lake is now our favourite car camping campground in Algonquin. It’s at the eastern end of the park and down a long dirt road off of Hwy 60. It is extremely quiet there with no road noise from the highway. The campground itself is a little open but there is so much to do around the area. We’ve brought a canoe with us in the past but on this trip we just brought the bikes. With a canoe, you can get to some really amazing areas around this campground. The campground is an access point for the backcountry canoe routes.
Just off to the side is a nice ‘hill’ with a fantastic hiking trail – the Booth Rock trail. I highly recommend this trail. It’s a nice 5.1 km loop with a few lookouts and other small lakes to explore. I might eventually go back and upload some of the pics from our previous trip here which would show more of the canoeing and hiking. We had a great time on this trip even thought it was a bit ‘buggy’ but that’s spring for you in the North.
